Stress Management

A young lady confidently walked around the room while leading and explaining stress management to an audience with a raised glass of water.
Everyone knew she was going to ask
the ultimate question: 'half empty or half full?'
She fooled them all ....
"How heavy is this glass of water?"
she inquired with a smile, answers called out
ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.
"The absolute weight doesn't matter.
It depends on how long I hold it.
If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.
If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm.
If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.
In each case it's the same weight.
But the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes."
She continued, "and that's the way it is with stress.
If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,
as the burden becomes increasingly heavy,
we won't be able to carry on."
"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down
for a while and rest before holding it again.
When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced.
So, early in the evening, put all your burdens down.
Don't carry them through the evening and into the night.
1 * Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue!
2 * Always keep your words soft and sweet just in case you have to eat them.
3 * Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.
4 * Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.
5 * If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
6 * If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
7 * It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
8 * Never buy a car you can't push.
9 * Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.
10 * Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
11 * Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
12 * The second mouse gets the cheese.
13 * When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.
14 * Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.
15 * Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
16 * We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.
17 * A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
18 * Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today.
19 * Save the earth..... It's the only planet with chocolate!
Be the kind of of person that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says
"Oh, Oh, THEY'RE UP!"

Toilet Fix

For the past few months, yes... months (hangs head in shame)
I have had trouble with the flapper thingy on our toilet.
It kept on staying out of the hole and of course the noise of the rushing water was terribly annoying. But I kept on ignoring it and kept on sticking my hand in the tank and pushing that flapper in the hole so the tank would fill up and stop making that rushing water noise. Finally, I went and got one! Here is how I fixed it.
And do you know how EASY it is to replace?
What took me so long? Procrastination.
You can actually "hear" the rushing noise by looking at the photo.

This is the one I bought, I loved the color and they had so many different ones, I was hoping I got the one that fit my tank.

So I added the top hook first and put the flapper
on the two hooks at the bottom and flushed.
The chain was too long and it ended up underneath the flapper so the flapper didn't end up in the hole as anticipated.

I had to adjust the top hook several times
and now it looks like a big knot.
But hey, at least it works now!

Do you do your own repairs?

Binder Done

My binder for the ultimate budget is done!
All sorted out and organized.
And I have proof!

I forgot to punch holes in the papers when I photocopied the originals at Staples, and so had to buy a hole-punch at the dollar store and punch the holes in them myself. Next time I will remember to do them at Staples, then I won't have to clean up!

And did you know that from
June to December
isn't 26 weeks?
There are 52 weeks in the year,
and June is half way (6 months)
so there should be 26 weeks, right? RIGHT?

Well, apparently not.
There are 31 weeks.
So... I have to visit Staples again
sometime between now and week 26...

I haven't had anything exciting
to write about UNTIL now.

I am going to do my own budget.
Yes, I need to manage my finances
(I haven't been able to keep money in the bank
and pay my bills on time)
but I am starting to think I CAN do it!
How hard is it to budget?
All you need is a list of income and a list of expenses and voila!
Budget is done!
I don't understand the whole hoopla...

List of Income
1 - Cleaning theater $1000 month
*payable $500 every two weeks
2 - Cleaning office $1000 month
*payable $500 every two weeks
3 - Rental Income $300 month - starts in June
*payable once a month starting in June
4 - Cleaning for a client $400 month - starts in June
*payable once a month starting in June
TOTAL INCOME - $2000 month (before June)
TOTAL INCOME $ 2700 per month (after June)

List of Monthly Expenses
1 - Condo fees $ 311.08
2- Property Taxes $650 approx payable once a year (haven't paid this yet, but should save up to $55 per month for this expense, so will put in $55 as monthly expense for this tax)
3 - Hydro (electricity) $ 100.00 approx
4 - Rogers Internet $ 45.00 approx
5 - Cell phone $ 50.00 approx
6 - Food $400 approx
7 - Car and Home Insurance $132.25 payable on the 8th of the month
8 - Gas for the car $200 approx
TOTAL EXPENSES $ $1293.33 approx*
*(I have other expenses not mentioned here such as bank fees etc...)

Now the "fun" part: MY DEBTS.
Visa $ 2169.36
*My limit is $2000
Mastercard $ 3002.64
*My limit is $2500
--- These include interest, past due fees etc...

Seems simple enough...
Tomorrow I will list my past spending
(from bank statements I will print out)
from January - May

Do you operate from a budget?

Sunday Reflections

Is it Sunday already?

Well, with the list I compiled last week,
I have not done one thing on it.
(hangs head in shame)
I guess I can keep the same list for this week too.

Do I get some encouragement
from my loyal readers?

  • sort out shoes (keep and donation)
  • set up bed in bedroom (right now the mattress is in the hallway...)
  • clean out fridge, clean oven and organize kitchen cupboards
  • start a filing system for important paperwork (bills, taxes, warranties etc...)
  • sort out fabric swatches and clothing pieces
  • hang up and fold clean laundry
  • make a list of vegetables to grow on balcony
  • do normal housecleaning... vacuum, dust etc...

Isn't that the scariest 6 letter word ever?

I have tried to use many budget ideas
but nothing ever stuck with me for long.

They were either too complicated, not personalized and certainly not pertinent to my lifestyle
or I had to pay for the download.

So I tried again to see what I could find and
I have found this site to be absolutely amazing!

What you get:
Cover page, weekly ledger page, monthly ledger page, savings information page, outstanding debt page, month at a glace page, year at a glace page, meals planning page, and a grocery list page.
And I have a binder to put them all in!
All I need is to 3 hole punch the pages and hopefully I can do that soon.
This is my personal picture, with the name of my blog on it!
Whoo hoo!

I like the fact that I am able to add my numbers without squeezing them into a small unusable space, I will give this my best shot and see how it goes in the next few months.

How do you take care of your finances?

Monday, 5 May 2014

Today I have done a bit of this and that
but not a thing on my list!

I have procrastinated because I need to go and get my check from my boss and that is all the way across town, it is now 6:00 pm and I have to go now to get it.
AND I need to sleep to go to work in a few hours.

So what do you do when someone says
"Not now, I am not home"
I stewed. That's what I did.
I did not get what I wanted when I needed it.
The banks are closed and again I have to wait for my hard earned money so I can pay some bills.

The only way this will stop is that I make my own money and not depend on someone else.

I hope you have a reliable source of income that comes in with consistent regularity!
